The Type 91 Kin is a low-altitude, man-portable surface-to-air missile system (the word "kin" is Japanese for "near"). It replaced the U.S. Stinger system in Japanese service.
The Type 91 is the standard divisional short-range air defense (SHORAD) weapon in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). It is also known as the SAM-2.
