The British Rapier surface-to-air missile (SAM) has been fielded in a variety of trailer-mounted systems, including optical, radar, infrared (IR) and laser tracking. (Tracked Rapier is described in a separate database entry; it is no longer in service.)

Development of the Rapier, as also occurred with the U.S. Chaparral air defense vehicle, was pursued when the advanced U.S. Mauler SAM system was cancelled in the mid-1960s.

The launcher is carried on a two-wheeled A-frame trailer....
