The 9K310 Igla (Needle) (NATO: SA-16 Gimlet) is a shoulder-fired surface-to-air missile (SAM) system that is an improvement over earlier Soviet-made shoulder-fired SAMs. The system fires 9M313 missiles. The system is designed to destroy low-flying aircraft and helicopters.
The SA-16 is distinct in that it has a ball-shaped battery/coolant reserve extending from the gripstock at 10 degrees relative to the launch tube.
