The AAM-5 is a short-range infrared homing missile designed for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. It features extended lock-on range, improved off-boresight performance and enhanced infrared counter-countermeasures (IRCCM) compared to the earlier AAM-3.
When combined with a Shimadzu helmet-mounted display, it provides a fighter with an all-round look-and-kill capability.
