The AA-8 Aphid is a highly maneuverable, short-range infrared (IR) homing "dogfighting" missile mounted on several types of Russian aircraft. Called the R-60 in Soviet (and later Russian) service, it was developed for the MiG-23.
The missile has a cylindrical body with a blunt nose. There are two sets of small foreplanes (one rectangular; the other delta-shaped); one set of "cropped delta" mainplanes at the rear in an in-line cruciform layout.
