The T-90 was originally a variant of the T-72BM produced by Nizhny Tagil to provide a lower cost alternative to the T-80UK. It is essentially a T-72BM that was upgraded again to the T-72BU standard, which only implied the fitting of the T-80's fire-control system to the T-72BM.
