The SU-76 (Samochodnaya Ustanovka 76) 76-mm anti-tank gun was developed as a tank destroyer. It was based on a lengthened T-70 light tank chassis.

The vehicle can be recognized by the hexangular superstructure at the rear of the hull and a prominent housing extending from the gun mantlet that protects the gun's recoil mechanism. The driver's large hatch is set in the middle of the well-sloped glacis.
