The M-84 main battle tank is based on the Russian-manufactured T-72, but has several different characteristics that have evolved since production began in the former Yugoslavia.

Resembling the T-72 only in outward appearance, the M-84 featured several changes to the original design, mostly to incorporate Yugoslav equipment into the tank, especially the turret.
