This very lightly and inadequately armored airborne tank destroyer has been replaced by the later ASU-85. The vehicle had an open top. The engine, transmission and drive sprocket were all front-mounted. Tracks had four road wheels and two return rollers.
An An-12 Cub could carry two ASU-57s. The vehicle could also be carried by Mi-6 Hook, Mi-8 Hip, Mi-10 Harke, and Mi-26 Halo helicopters. The ASU-57 could be dropped on a pallet with four main and four stabilizing parachutes....
