The Spanish VEC-M1 is derived from the BMR-600 armored personnel carrier. It has a different internal layout and is more heavily armored.
The VEC-M1 was designated the BMR-625 VEC (Vehiculo de Exploracion de Caballeria, or cavalry scout vehicle) 6 x 6 wheeled armored reconnaissance vehicle (ARV) when first introduced in the 1980s.
