The 6 x 6 BTR-152 was the first Soviet post-war armored personnel carrier (APC) brought into general service. It is used not only as an APC, but also an anti-aircraft artillery vehicle, cargo carrier and mine-laying vehicle.
The first production vehicles were based on the ZIL-151 truck, but the more powerful ZIL-157 chassis soon replaced the ZIL-151, improving performance and maintainability to some extent.
