The BMP-2 (boevaya mashina pekhota, or infantry fighting vehicle) is the successor to the BMP-1 and serves in Russian motorized rifle and tank divisions.
The BMP has a long, shallow glacis leading to the flat turret. The BMP-2 is readily distinguishable from its predecessor by the enlarged two-man turret, which mounts a 30-mm automatic gun, Model 2A42, with a long, thin tube and a double-baffle muzzle brake, along with a 7.62-mm coaxial machine gun on its front.
