The BMD-3 (boevaya mashina desantnaya) airborne combat vehicle is similar to its predecessors, the BMD-1 and BMD-2, but with better amphibious capabilities. Production was limited to fewer than 140 vehicles. The BMD-3 can be airdropped with a crew of seven inside. An Il-76 cargo aircraft can carry three BMD-3s aloft for air drops.
