Country of Origin: Russia

The BMD-1 (boevaya mashina desantnayaorairborne combat vehicle) is a tracked, air-transportable IFV used by Russian air assault divisions and ground forces of several other nations.

The BMD-1 shares several similarities with the BMP-1 used by non-airborne forces. The BMD-1 has a straight roofline, shallow glacis and a flat-topped turret armed with a 73-mm gun. The BMD-1, however, has a rear-mounted engine, no rear entry and is smaller and lighter than the BMP-1 in general.
