The Ra'ad (Thunder) air defense system was developed by Iran to defend against the threat of U.S. aircraft. The system fires Taer (Bird) missiles. The Ra'ad is designed to destroy fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, cruise missiles, smart weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The Ra'ad and Taer are believed to be based on the Russian Buk M2EK system, although there are small variations.
