The Trishul (Trident) was a short-range missile that was intended for anti-air and anti-missile operation in all three of India's armed services. Some sources also indicated the Trishul could have had an anti-ship role.
The missile was designed to counter low-level attacks by aircraft and sea-skimming missiles. It was all-weather capable and had a quick reaction time, taking only 6 seconds to launch a missile from the time it detected a target.
