The ZIS-3 towed anti-tank gun was introduced during the early part of World War II. The M1942 version was similar to the earlier M1939, but added a double-baffle muzzle brake and a carriage based on that of the 57-mm ZIS-2 anti-tank gun, which has a split tubular trail.
The shield is square and extends part of the way over the wheels. The hydraulic buffer is fitted above the barrel, the hydro-pneumatic recuperator, below; the action of the two parts of the recoil system is linked...
