The 122-mm Raad-1 is a self-propelled howitzer developed by Iran. It has a standard layout for such systems, with the driver and powerpack at the front and the fully enclosed turret and fighting compartment at the rear.
The vehicle has an all-welded steel hull similar to that used by the Iranian Boraq armored personnel carrier. Maximum armor thickness is 0.7 in (17 mm), providing protection against small-arms fire and shell splinters.
