The 120-mm M1943 mortar is a smoothbore, medium-caliber, dual-action infantry support weapon. It can be drop-fired (the striker in the bomb firing immediately upon hitting the lower end of the barrel) or trigger-fired after aiming.
The mortar is carried on a two-wheel carriage for transport; it is fired from a baseplate and bipod. It is fitted with a muzzle-mounted safety lock to prevent double loading.
