Designed for operation in difficult terrain, the FanTail was a "tail-sitter" vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) remotely piloted aircraft. In urban areas, it could fly along narrow streets or position itself between tall vantage points. It could also perform nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) agent-detection missions.
FanTail was capable of takeoff and VTOL landing even in severe weather conditions, including strong winds and gusts.
