The Y-9 is a medium-transport aircraft developed for the Chinese air force. It is a substantial redesign of the Y-8, itself a derivative of the An-12. The Y-9 has high-mounted wings with four turboprop engines fitted under the wings' leading edges. The tail flaps and fin are also mounted high. The nose and empennage have been redesigned from the Y-8 . It has more cargo space than the Y-8 and a rapid loading/unloading system.
