The Il-76 Candid is a medium-/long-range Russian cargo/transport aircraft produced in both military and civil versions. Military missions include troop transport, freight and aerial refueling. At least two Iraqi Il-76s were converted into airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft named Baghdad 1 and Adnan 1 (see "Variants, below"). The Mainstay airborne warning and control system (AWACS) and Il-78 Midas are also variants of this aircraft (see separate records).
