Harakat ul-Mujahedin/Jamiat-ul-Ansar

Harakat ul-Mujahedin (HuM) was known as Harakat al-Ansar until 1997, when it was designated as a terrorist group by the United States. The group changed its name to Jamiat-ul-Ansar in 2001. The group has repeatedly changed its name in an attempt to avoid sanctions. 
Harakat ul-Mujahideen comes from the Arabic term for “Movement of Holy Warriors.” Jamiat-ul-Ansar is the Arabic term for “Group of Partisans,” specifically referring to the early helpers of the prophet Mohammed.
