The Army has identified long-range weapons as a top priority for
its ongoing modernization efforts. Under the new Army Futures
Command, a longer cannon barrel is being developed for the Paladin
self-propelled howitzer. Components for the Extended-Range Cannon
Artillery (ERCA) program, which aims to achieve a range of 44 miles
(70 km), have been undergoing testing since 2015. The latest trials,
shown above, evaluated a five-round limited capacity autoloader.
