Ethiopia is building the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Blue
Nile River, not far from the border with Sudan. Construction continues
in this photo dated Feb. 10. Ethiopia has said it will be ready to begin
filling the reservoir when the rainy season begins this summer. Egypt
has expressed concern that the dam will affect its freshwater supply,
which depends on the Nile, much of which comes from Ethiopia.
