The U.S. Navy is set to commission its newest Freedom-class littoral combat ship, reports the Dept. of Defense.
The Wichita (LCS-13) will formally enter service during a ceremony on Saturday at Naval Station Mayport, Fla., said a Pentagon release on Wednesday.
The ship, the third naval vessel to honor the largest city in Kansas, is designed to defeat asymmetric anti-access threats such as mines, quiet diesel submarines and fast surface craft in near-shore and open ocean...
