Watchdog Urges Donors To Halt Funding Over Alleged Human-Rights Abuses By New Defense Minister

Human Rights Watch has called for sanctions against recently-appointed Afghan Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid, reports Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. 

Khalid faces credible accusations of human-rights abuses and war crimes, the New York-based watchdog group said on Saturday. 

He has been accused of assassinations, torture and acts of sexual violence while serving as governor of Ghazni from 2002 to 2005 and governor of Kandahar from 2005 to 2008.
