Top U.S. military officials say about 2,000 personnel have been pulled from Afghanistan over the past year, reports the Voice of America News.
Only 12,000 U.S. personnel are now deployed to conduct counterterrorism and training and advising missions in Afghanistan, Gen. Austin Scott Miller, the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan, said on Monday.
On Sunday, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said that the U.S. mission could be reduced to 8,600 troops without adverse effects.
