Washington Pushes 8-Year Repair Plan For Futenma Air Base

The U.S. government is reportedly asking Tokyo to spend millions of dollars for needed repairs at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma on the Japanese island of Okinawa, say sources cited by the Asahi Shimbun.

There have been years of negotiations over the possible relocation of Marines on Okinawa. A February agreement delinked the relocation from U.S. plans to transfer thousands of Marines from Okinawa to Guam.
