The Danish navy has retired its three icebreakers after more than a decade of warm winters meant they weren't being used, reports the Copenhagen Post.
The Danbjorn-class icebreakers Isbjorn and Danbjorn and the Thorbjorn will be taken out of service under a parliamentary agreement aimed at finding defense savings.
The move is expected to save the military US$231 million and Danish Ports Association around US$3.3 million annually in maintenance expenses.
