The Afghan Ministry of Defense says a large-scale military operation will soon take place in the northern part of the country, reports Tolo News (Kabul).
The goal of the operation is to eliminate insurgents and improve security in the region, which traditionally has been less volatile than the rest of Afghanistan, the ministry said on Sunday.
Taliban militants have recently moved into the Badakhshan, Kunduz, Takhar, Baghlan and Balkh provinces, he said.
