The United Nations has accused Kyrgyz security forces of illegally arresting and torturing ethnic Uzbeks, Reuters reports.
Over 1,000 people, mostly young men, have been illegally detained in the southern Kyrgyz cities of Osh and Jalalabad, said U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay.
Sources reported that the men were repeatedly beaten, burned with cigarettes, asphyxiated and had their fingernails pulled out, Pillay said.
Local authorities turned a blind eye...
