USA

The USS Princeton is set to leave its homeport of San Diego on Thursday for the Persian Gulf, the Navy Times reports.

The guided missile cruiser will join in maritime operations including counter-piracy missions and defense of oil platforms, 3rd Fleet officials said.

The ship has a crew of 330 and a detachment of two SH-60B Seahawk helicopters.

Princeton last deployed in 2008 as part of the Nimitz carrier strike group before beginning a scheduled maintenance period.
