The U.S. Navy has taken delivery of its newest Lewis and Clark-class cargo ship, reports General Dynamics NASSCO, the San Diego-based shipbuilder.
The Charles Drew (T-AKE 10) is named after a surgeon and hematologist who pioneered procedures for the safe storage and transfusion of blood.
The vessel is the 10th of 14 Lewis and Clark-class vessels being built for the Navy.
