Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta believes that Bucharest can only afford to buy used F-16 fighters to replace its aging MiG-21 aircraft, reports ACT Media.
Portugal and Netherlands have offered to sell their secondhand fighters, the prime minister said.
A regional effort, touted by Romanian President Traian Basescu, to buy new F-16s from the U.S. with Bulgaria and Croatia appears to be unrealistic, said the prime minister.
