The St. Louis-based Boeing company has announced it will begin building components for the first U.S. Air Force KC-46A tanker this fall, Defense News reports.
The assembly of the first aircraft should start in about a year, company officials said this week.
The Air Force awarded Boeing the tanker contract in February 2011, and the company has kept program details to itself since then.
