U.S. Tests 'Smart' Rifles That Use Rounds With Embedded Computer Chips

U.S. troops are testing a new rifle in Afghanistan that can detonate rounds behind walls, MSNBC reports.

Some army soldiers have been carrying prototypes of the semi-automatic XM25 since November. Feedback from the troops will be used to refine the weapon before it is officially deployed in 2014, said officials.

More soldiers are expected to be given the weapon next year, and more than 12,500 rifles will be issued when the XM25 is officially deployed.
