A top U.S. general says leads of the Haqqani network are still trying to gain control in eastern Afghanistan, reports the American Forces Press Service.
While Haqqani forces make up 10 percent or less of the overall insurgency in Afghanistan, they are among the most effective and lethal, Army Lt. Gen. Curtis "Mike" Scaparrotti, commander of NATO's Joint Command and deputy commander of U.S. Forces Afghanistan, told reporters in Washington, D.C.
