U.S. Said To Be Seeking Supply Route To Afghanistan

The top U.S. commander in the Middle East and Central Asia is denying accounts that the U.S. will open a base in Kazakhstan.

U.S. military officials say CENTCOM commander Gen. David Petraeus's visit to Kazakhstan does not reflect any plans to deploy troops there, reports RIA Novosti.

Petraeus' meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on Wednesday covered the transit of U.S. military supplies through the country into Afghanistan, said military officials.
