U.S. Meets Opposition For New Base Flight Paths

The U.S. is seeking a significant change in aircraft flight routes for the planned relocation base for Marine Corps Air Station Futenma on the Japanese island of Okinawa, reports the Kyodo News Agency.

The new plan, proposed earlier this month, would allow U.S. aircraft to fly closer to onshore areas than previously agreed, officials said.

The proposed flight path could worsen noise levels and pose risks to residential areas, according to diplomatic sources.
