The Marine Corps has confirmed it will replace helicopters based at Futenma air station in Okinawa with MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, reports the Stars and Stripes.
Ospreys could arrive in Okinawa as soon as 2013 as part of efforts to replace the Corps' aging fleet of CH-46 Sea Knight helicopters, according to a statement released last week by the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Bases Japan.
