The USS McFaul intercepted a Panamanian-flagged ship with 24 crew members last week off the coast of Somalia after it had been hijacked by 50 pirates, CNN reports.
The McFaul kept the MV Iceberg under surveillance for 26 hours, military officials said.
While it was being shadowed, the Iceberg reversed course towards the coast of Somalia.
