U.S. Aircraft Fly Twice Daily Over Russia On Transit Missions

More than 200 U.S. military aircraft have carried troops and military cargo to Afghanistan through Russian airspace since a July 2009 agreement permitted such overflights, Interfax-AVN reports.

In mid-March, a U.S. official said more than 100 such flights had taken place. On average, two Afghanistan-bound airplanes reportedly take the air corridor each day.

Nearly 20,000 U.S. servicemen have been airlifted to date to Afghanistan through Russian airspace.
