Upgrading New Orleans Amphib To Begin In January Under New Contract

The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems a $36.7 million contract for the repair and maintenance of the amphibious transport dock USS New Orleans (LPD-18), reports the defense firm.
The New Orleans will be the first ship to undergo a refit at the company's new drydock in San Diego, BAE Systems said in a release on Nov. 10. The deal includes options that could increase the contract's total value to US$51.5 million.
