Upgraded MiG-29s Face Duty On Pakistan Border

In an effort to strengthen air defenses, the Indian air force has decided to place up to 62 modernized MiG-29s near the border with Pakistan, Defense News reports.
The first six of the upgraded aircraft are expected to be delivered from Russia in mid-2010, said government officials. The rest are scheduled by 2013.
Those initial upgraded aircraft will be based at the Adampur air base in the border state of Punjab, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.
