U.S. officials say the Obama administration may drop its halting plans for a large-scale Syrian force to combat the Islamic State, reports the Wall Street Journal.
One option being worked on by the Defense Dept. calls for the current $500 million train-and-equip program to be replaced by a less ambitious project focused on creating specially trained militants that could call in U.S. airstrikes, according to U.S. defense officials.
