Unarmed Police Contingent Coming From OSCE

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) has agreed to deploy a small police force to southern Kyrgyzstan, Interfax-AVN reports.

Ethnic clashes last month in the southern part of the country left about 300 dead.

An initial contingent of 52 officers will be deployed, said an OSCE official, with 50 more possible at a later date.

The mission is set for four months, but could be extended, he added.
