U.N. Revises Peacekeeping Requirement

U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for a smaller potential peacekeeping force to take over from E.U. troops next year in Chad and Central Africa Republic, reports the U.N. News Service.
The secretary-general now is seeking a force of at least 4,900 troops, about 1,000 less than previously proposed, and 18 helicopters.
The current 3,300-strong European Union force is scheduled to end its mission on March 15, 2009.
