U.N. Renews Peacekeeping Mandate

The U.N. Security Council has extended the mandate for its peacekeeping mission in Cyprus (UNFICYP) for another six months, reports the U.N. News Service.
The UNFICYP mission was extended until Dec. 15. The council also urged the Greek and Turkish Cypriot leaders to reach a comprehensive and durable settlement.
The mission was established in March 1964 after an outbreak of violence between the two communities.
