The U.N. Security Council has extended the mandate for the peacekeeping mission in Sudan (UNMIS) for another year, reports the U.N. News Service.
The new mandate extends through April 30, 2011, and could be renewed as required.
UNMIS was established to support the 2005 agreement that ended the civil war between the government in Khartoum and south Sudan.
The Security Council indicated that the peacekeepers were still needed to oversee the completion of the remaining tasks...
